AREVA and URS Corporation’s Washington Division announce that their SGT LLC joint venture signed a contract with Entergy Operations, Inc. to provide project management, engineering and construction services for the replacement of two steam generators and the reactor vessel head at their Waterford 3 Steam Electric Station.
Engineering and planning activities will begin immediately with installation scheduled for spring 2011. “Entergy’s selection of SGT builds on the working relationship formed during the steam generator replacement project at Arkansas Nuclear One and reflects our commitment to teamwork, continuous improvement and world class performance,” said Dick Wilkerson, president of SGT. “The successful installation of these components will support the reliable operation of Waterford Unit 3 for years to come.”
SGT replacement services will include the following: management and outage planning, design engineering, construction and craft management, rigging and handling of the old and new steam generators, heavy haul transportation, fit-up metrology, and large-bore pipe cutting and welding. Each generator is over 65-feet long and weighs nearly 700 tons. SGT has replaced steam generators at 19 other units across the United States.
