December 12, 2008

AREVA announced today the formation of AREVA Enrichment Services, LLC (AES) – a new subsidiary responsible for U.S. enrichment services and the future owner and operator of the Eagle Rock Enrichment Facility under development near Idaho Falls, Idaho.

AREVA also announced the nomination of Sam Shakir as President and Chief Executive Officer of AES. Mr. Shakir is a 17 year veteran of the industry and most recently served as General Manager, leading the strategic enrichment program since AREVA began planning its U.S. enrichment facility in January 2007.

“We are strongly committed to a rapid and decisive deployment of our best resources and know how to revive the U.S. nuclear infrastructure. The formation of AES and the appointment of Sam Shakir as its top executive further solidifies our path forward and achieves another important milestone in realizing America’s newest enrichment facility,” said Jacques Besnainou, President of AREVA Inc.

AREVA is on schedule to submit its license application to the Nuclear Regulatory Commission later this month, meeting a major milestone in its efforts to date. The company plans to move swiftly into the facility design phase in parallel with NRC review of the license application, and expects to break ground for the plant in early 2011. The AES licensing and design team will operate from offices in Idaho Falls; Bethesda, Md.; and Marlborough, Mass.
