Environmental Management- AFS's Major Projects

The DOE Office of Environmental Management has the responsibility for environmental restoration, waste management, technology development, and facility transition and management, and as part of this directive, AFS plays a strategic role in several projects.

Hanford Site

Providing solutions for environmental cleanup at the DOE site in Washington state.

Savannah River Site

AFS is a subcontractor to the DOE for the operations of the Liquid Waste facilities at the Savannah River Site (SRS).

Uranium Disposition Services

AFS is a member of Uranium Disposition Services, LLC (UDS), for disposition the depleted uranium hexafluoride.

Learning more about radioactivity

Discovered in 1896 by Henri Becquerel, radioactivity is often not well known about. This booklet enables a round of all the basic questions to be made: What is radioactivity? Where does it come from? What are its effects on the organism? How is it measured and protected against? Etc.
