AREVA’s Transmission & Distribution division recently received an order from Allegheny Energy for an upgrade to their existing Energy Management System (EMS).
The new EMS will be developed and delivered by AREVA T&D’s Automation Business Unit in Redmond, Wash., the company’s Worldwide Center of Excellence for all Network Management Solutions. The system will be based on e-terraplatform 2.5 software, which includes AREVA’s latest situational awareness visualization technology. In addition, Allegheny Energy will participate in AREVA’s joint funding programs and will benefit from breakthrough technologies being developed by AREVA’s R&D group in Redmond.
The new EMS will coincide with Allegheny Energy’s investment to build a new control center facility located in Fairmont, W.Va. The new facility will have the latest in state-of-the-art control center technology and be a catalyst for Allegheny Energy’s efforts to increase grid reliability.
The new EMS is scheduled to be delivered in March 2011 to Allegheny’s facilities in Fairmont and Greensburg, Pa.
“We continue to value our on-going relationship with AREVA and considered their reputation in the industry when choosing a vendor to help us manage the growth in our region and the impact that is going to have on the grid,” said James R. Haney, Vice President, Transmission for Allegheny Power.
“At AREVA T&D, we’re very proud of our long-term customer relationships with leading electric utilities like Allegheny who has been our customer since 1997. We’re proud to reinforce our commitment to them through this upgrade project and also have them as a participant in our joint funding programs which ensure our software is relevant to the market’s needs,” Michael Atkinson, managing director for AREVA T&D’s Network Management Solutions product line in Americas and China.
