AREVA’s Transmission and Distribution (T&D) division is demonstrating this week its unique system for integrating its Smart Grid technologies and renewable power generation in booth #103 at the GridWeek conference being held at the Ronald Reagan Building & International Trade Center in Washington, D.C.
AREVA’s Smart Grid Suite, which includes its range of e-terra products, helps manage and optimize the efficient operations of transmission and distribution grids. This collection of high-performance solutions provides effective management and utilization of data for wholesale and retail electricity markets. Transparent and secure applications support the implementation of demand-response strategies.
“AREVA is committed to finding solutions for expanding CO2-free power generation, such as renewables and nuclear energy, and doing it in ever more efficient ways. Using our cutting-edge smart grid technologies to facilitate better use of renewable generation is a great way that AREVA can use its expertise to help meet our energy and environmental goals,” said Jacques Besnainou, President of AREVA North America.
AREVA was awarded a Department of Energy grant in July to study global best practices in grid management tools and operations strategies for wind plants. This will provide the basis for operating the U.S. electrical grid with more wind power generation. The company also has worked with its customers who have developed and submitted proposals with its smart grid technologies for stimulus funding from the DOE.
Last week, Cisco announced that AREVA had joined its new Smart Grid Ecosystem alliance to develop Internet Protocol (IP) communication standards for smart grids.
In addition to its position as world leader in nuclear energy, AREVA has a rapidly growing renewables sector, with major projects under development around the world in biopower (biomass to electricity) and offshore wind.
