AREVA Solar announced Dr. Phillip Gleckman has joined AREVA Solar as its new Chief Technology Officer (CTO). In his role as CTO, Dr. Gleckman will lead AREVA Solar’s technology roadmap and will manage research and development projects as the company continues to advance its Compact Linear Fresnel Reflector (CLFR) superheated solar thermal technology.
Dr. Gleckman previously served as a member of Google’s renewable energy research group, where he led the solar Brayton Cycle (operation of a gas turbine engine) receiver program. He also held an appointment as a visiting scientist in the Materials Science department at the California Institute of Technology (Caltech). Dr. Gleckman’s prior commercial solar energy experience includes management of the R&D groups at two Idealab companies.
AREVA Solar CEO Bill Gallo stated, “AREVA Solar provides world-class concentrated solar power technology for a global customer base. Based on Dr. Gleckman’s previous success in developing leading-edge solar technology, we plan to put his knowledge to work for AREVA Solar as we continue to advance our CLFR technology and develop our rapidly expanding project pipeline.”
Dr. Gleckman earned a bachelor’s degree in physics from MIT and a doctorate in physics from the University of Chicago. At Chicago, he set the world record for solar concentration and used the intense energy to demonstrate the feasibility of direct sunlight to laser light conversion. He holds thirty patents and has authored several publications in solar energy and displays. At Infocus, he developed the world’s first portable electronic projector, which earned a PC Magazine award in 1998.
“I am excited to help AREVA Solar build upon its best-in-class technology,” said Dr. Gleckman. “I look forward to advancing the firm’s CLFR technology as we continue to provide global comprehensive CSP solutions for the construction of concentrated solar power plants worldwide.”
AREVA Solar designs, manufactures and installs solar steam generators for its global power generation and industrial customers in a dependable, competitive and environmentally responsible manner. AREVA’s CLFR solar thermal technology is water-conservative and the most land-efficient renewable energy technology available. AREVA Solar has operations in the United States, India, and Australia.
