CANBERRA Industries, Inc., a developer and manufacturer of radiation detection solutions, has recently announced the transition of its safeguards and military product development and manufacturing to its Oak Ridge, Tenn. facility. The company currently occupies 34,000 square feet at 107 Union Valley Road and intends to expand as the business grows. The company also expects to more than double the number of employees at the facility within one year.
CANBERRA has focused on Oak Ridge because of its close proximity to Department of Energy sites, including Oak Ridge National Laboratory, a safeguards and nuclear research hub, as well as other key customers such as the Tennessee Valley Authority. Additionally, Oak Ridge is an attractive location from which to recruit industry talent.
“Our safeguards and military segments are very important to our overall business growth strategy, serving customers such as the IAEA (International Atomic Energy Agency) and the US Department of Defense, and we believe that Oak Ridge is the perfect location in which to create a center of excellence in the development of these products,” said Yves Baumgartner, CEO CANBERRA Industries, Inc. “We look forward to increasing our footprint and resources in this area that is so attractive for the development all types of nuclear technology.”
CANBERRA’s parent company, AREVA, also announced today the opening of a new office in Chattanooga, Tenn., to increase its regional engineering, project and service support to customers in the Southeastern United States.
