Corporate Citizenship

AREVA has a long-standing tradition of community involvement both here in North America as well as globally. Corporate citizenship is a key value for the company and one of our commitments to sustainable development.
This commitment goes beyond just donating dollars. It is about building partnerships to support community needs, enhancing the quality of life and engaging community leaders and employees. It is about listening to our key stakeholders and understanding their needs and expectations. We know the importance of extending our commitments beyond traditional economic roles to help build a better society. Building good corporate citizenship means a better environment for growth and prosperity for all stakeholders.
Involvement in AREVA’s communities throughout the U.S. and Canada
Community involvement is one of the 10 commitments to sustainable development identified to help the company achieve growth that is not only profitable, but also socially responsible, and respectful to the environment.
AREVA’s corporate giving strategy was developed with these Sustainable Development commitments in mind and in such a way as to achieve maximum impact to both the community and corporate goals by focusing on three key areas: education, culture and environment, and human service programs. Our active involvement in these areas ensures that opportunities for outreach and volunteerism are available for our employees and fellow citizens and that our support improves the quality of life in our surrounding communities. These efforts are enhanced by our employees who give willingly of their time and energy throughout the year by participating in a number of service projects, serving on boards, and volunteering in schools and other agencies.
Public expectations for good corporate behavior at the community level are high. They go beyond traditional economic roles to helping build a better society. At AREVA, we will continue to contribute to the well-being of the communities we serve.
Community Advisory Council
As part of AREVA’s commitment to be transparent and advance the discussion on clean energy, we formed a Community Advisory Council made up of representatives from various ethnic communities and grassroots organizations.
For the past three years, we have engaged with representatives in discussions on energy security, job creation, and the clean energy options throughout the United States. Some of these community leaders have been to visit our facilities in France to give them a first-hand look at the entire nuclear cycle, and ask questions of our employees as well as the townspeople from the surrounding areas.
In 2010, Community Advisory Council members visited AREVA's enrichment, fuel fabrication, heavy equipment manufacturing and the used fuel recycling facilities. During this visit, council members were able to see first-hand AREVA’s safe and sustainable operations and dialogued with local stakeholders to learn more about our relationships and the economic benefits of nuclear energy.
