AREVA’s Fuel Manufacturing Facility Receives Spotless Review from NRC
April 03, 2013
CHARLOTTE, N.C., April 3, 2013 – AREVA is pleased to announce the successful completion of the annual Licensee Performance Review of AREVA’s manufacturing facility in Richland, Wash. The facility achieved the highest distinction the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) can extend to any fuel manufacturing facility.
“We are pleased with the positive outcome of this period’s important regulatory review with no areas cited as needing improvement,” stated Ron Land, senior vice president of AREVA Inc.’s Fuel Business Unit. “While it’s no surprise, our employees are committed to upholding AREVA’s high standards of safety and quality, and work diligently to achieve operational excellence, day in and day out, year after year.”
AREVA’s performance was evaluated in four major areas: Safety Operations, Radiological Controls, Facility Support, and Special Topics. The NRC determined that, between Jan. 1 and Dec. 31, 2012, AREVA’s Richland facility operated smoothly and without incident. The review did not identify any specific areas needing improvement. This is the sixth year in a row the Richland facility has earned a review, with no areas for improvement.
