Columbiana Hi Tech to Expand Greensboro, N.C.-Based Facility
May 07, 2013
Charlotte, N.C., May 7, 2013 — Columbiana Hi Tech (CHT), a nuclear manufacturer purchased by AREVA’s Transnuclear subsidiary, is expanding its facility and adding new technology to address a growing need for safe used fuel management materials. To support an increase in new orders for used fuel canisters, CHT is adding another 900 square-feet of office space and building a 1,050 square-foot training center at its main facility in Greensboro, N.C.
“We are expanding our capabilities by investing in human performance and state-of-the-art equipment to ensure that we meet the demands of our customers for trusted, high quality products that meet and exceed their safety and quality expectations,” said Don Olson, President and COO of Columbiana Hi Tech.
The training center will be used to offer employees classroom training on topics ranging from occupational safety to quality system implementation to used fuel storage system concepts. Further investment has been made in new equipment including a cutting edge technology welding machine and a state-of-the-art x-ray film processor. Additional expansion in both facilities and manufacturing equipment is planned for later in 2013.
CHT was purchased by Transnuclear, Inc., an AREVA company, in 2012 and recently expanded its engineering staff in order to meet the growing need for safe used fuel storage canisters.
“CHT is a key part of our strategy, as America’s leader in dry fuel storage, to develop innovative products and offer cost-effective solutions to our used fuel transportation and dry storage customers,” said Mike McMahon, President and CEO of Transnuclear, Inc. “We believe that our role in helping to solve America’s challenges related to safe used fuel management is important, and CHT positions us to continue to lead with safe, quality products and forward-looking innovation.”
