North Carolina Governor Pat McCrory Cuts the Ribbon at AREVA’s CHT Manufacturing Facility
June 06, 2013
CHARLOTTE, N.C., June 6, 2013 – North Carolina Governor Pat McCrory and representatives of AREVA were on hand today to cut the ceremonial ribbon at Columbiana Hi Tech, LLC’s (CHT) Greensboro facility to mark the first order for used nuclear fuel storage canisters placed at CHT by Transnuclear, Inc. since its acquisition by the AREVA subsidiary.
Joining Gov. McCrory for the ribbon-cutting and tour of the Greensboro manufacturing facility were AREVA Inc. President and CEO Mike Rencheck; Transnuclear, Inc. President and CEO Michael McMahon; CHT President and COO Don Olson; and Paul Newton, State President, North Carolina for Duke Energy.
“I am pleased to welcome AREVA and Transnuclear’s expansion. Their commitment to North Carolina will result in new jobs and is an example of our dedication to help existing industries grow in the best state for business in America,” said Gov. McCrory. “AREVA is an important member of the North American energy sector and I congratulate them on their continued growth in Greensboro and Charlotte.”
Transnuclear’s acquisition of CHT illustrates AREVA’s strong investment in the U.S. commercial nuclear power industry, strengthening its manufacturing capabilities and commitment to a safe and robust U.S. industrial base that will protect and create jobs in North Carolina. Since its acquisition in December 2012, CHT has announced plans to expand facilities and increase full-time staff by 25 percent in 2013.
“This is an important and forward-looking step for Transnuclear and AREVA. Working with CHT increases our ability to aggressively streamline costs, shorten delivery times, and maximize quality while maintaining control of our used fuel storage design innovations and intellectual property,” said McMahon. “We are looking forward to the fabrication of our first order with CHT, whose process and quality assurance programs ensure a remarkable degree of precision. Their integrity and reputation for excellence aligns with our corporate culture that places a high value on safety and transparency.”
Transnuclear Inc.’s first order placed with CHT, for manufacturing the 61BTH model safe used fuel storage casks will begin in August with the first delivery in 2014.
