CHARLOTTE, N.C., December 18, 2013 – AREVA has been awarded a $73 million life-of-plant nuclear fuel contract with Dominion for Unit 2 at its Millstone Power Station in Waterford, Conn. AREVA, which currently supplies fuel to Millstone 2, will provide CE-14 HTP reload fuel to the plant through 2035, when the plant’s operating license expires.
"The AREVA HTP design for the CE 14x14 fuel configuration has operated well in the Millstone Unit 2 core, helping us achieve our fuel performance goals,” said Kerry Basehore, director of Nuclear Analysis and Fuel at Dominion. “We are pleased to be able to extend our fuel assembly supply contract with AREVA through 2035 and the end of the current unit’s operating license."
The scope of work includes reload fuel supply and associated analytical studies and engineering services. The fuel will be fabricated at AREVA’s fuel fabrication facility in Richland, Wash.
“AREVA is very pleased to have been selected by Dominion for this fuel contract, which provides them with supply security in the competitive Northeast power market,” said Ala Alzaben, vice president of Mining and Front End Sales for AREVA Inc. “Our employees are committed to helping utilities run their plants safely and efficiently, and we look forward to providing Millstone 2 with the highest quality, high-performance fuel on the market.”
