February 06, 2014
CHARLOTTE, N.C., February 6, 2014 – AREVA Inc.’s Richland, Wash., fuel fabrication facility received today a Better Workplace Award in the category of Workplace Safety from the Association of Washington Business (AWB). AWB recognized the facility for improvements in safety awareness; the site recorded only three recordable incidents in 2013 out of 1.3 million work hours.
“AREVA Inc. is dedicated to safe operations, closely coordinating with the community and working to protect the environment where we operate,” said Dominique Grandemange, Richland site manager, AREVA Inc. “To that end, we are committed to continuous improvement in the safety of our operations and congratulate our employees who have worked hard to make a significant improvement in the site’s industrial safety record.”
AWB’s Better Workplace Awards recognize regional businesses that promote safety, provide a family-friendly work environment and encourage employee achievement.
AREVA Inc. employees and managers incorporated tools and a variety of work practices – including peer-to-peer observations, widespread use of personal protection equipment, human factor training, safety days and safety behavioral-based rewards – to improve the site’s safety performance.
AREVA Inc.’s Richland fuel manufacturing facility serves the United States and Pacific Rim nuclear power plant markets. The facility is licensed by the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission and the state of Washington.
