Q&A with Mr. Rencheck

CHARLOTTE, N.C., January 21, 2014 – AREVA Inc. CEO Mike Rencheck was recognized recently by the National Safety Council (NSC) as one of the 2014 CEOs Who “Get It.” Rencheck is honored, along with nine other CEOs, for embracing safety as a critical part of business operations.

“The Council is honored to recognize such strong examples of safety leadership in this year’s group of CEOs Who ‘Get It,’” said Jim Johnson, vice president, workplace safety initiatives. “We hope other leaders follow suit with a steadfast dedication to safety excellence.”

Since 2009, Rencheck has shaped a culture of safety among the company’s nearly 5,000 employees in the region. This includes reinforcing safety standards through improvement plans at each major facility, the development of an employee-led U.S. Safety Steering Team, implementation of common policies and standards, human performance tools and practices, and daily, weekly and monthly safety tracking through observations and coaching.

“As a forward-looking energy company, our dedication to safety and excellence is the foundation for building and maintaining public confidence,” said Rencheck. “Safety drives our commitment to operational excellence and delivering low-carbon energy solutions to our customers and communities.”

Notably, AREVA’s total Occupational Safety and Health Administration incident rate has improved from 0.70 to 0.21 injuries per 100 employees from 2007 to 2013, with an ambitious target of zero OSHA recordable incidents in 2014.

The NSC will feature this year’s CEOs Who “Get It” in Safety+Health, the official magazine of the NSC Congress and Expo.
