AREVA Inc. and Jefferson Forest Boys Soccer Team Extend Partnership to Fight Local Childhood Hunger
March 24, 2014
CHARLOTTE, N.C., March 24, 2014 –AREVA Inc. and the Jefferson Forest (JF) High School boys’ varsity soccer team have teamed up again to raise funds for the Blue Ridge Area Food Bank’s BackPack Program. For the second year in a row, AREVA will donate $50 for every goal the JF team scores during home games this season to assist the more than 50,000 children in the Blue Ridge region struggling with hunger.
“AREVA invests in the next generation workforce for the safe, low-carbon energy industry in a variety of ways. Even before kids can begin imagining a career, it is essential that their most basic needs are met,” said Michael Rencheck, chief executive officer and president of AREVA Inc. “We are proud to again support the JF team and the Blue Ridge Area Food Bank to help fill this need.”
“We helped raise $1,900 last year,” said JF varsity player Ben Cavanaugh. “It is a great way to raise money and awareness about childhood hunger happening right here in our community.”
“We are thrilled to be a part of AREVA’s community outreach project again this year. The Blue Ridge Area Food Bank provides food to more than 6,800 children annually through our after-school feeding programs, and we are only able to do so because of the community’s generous and continued support,” said Michael McKee, CEO of the Blue Ridge Area Food Bank. “We wish the team a stellar season and deeply appreciate their efforts to solve hunger for local children in need.”
AREVA sponsors the BackPack Program as part of its community outreach in Lynchburg, Va. A contributions committee representing a cross-section of the company’s Lynchburg employees voted to support this creative approach to raise awareness of the plight of these children and raise funds for the program.
