LYNCHBURG, Va., May 13, 2014 – Jefferson Forest (JF) boys’ varsity soccer players put their backs into their “Kicks for a Cause” program on Saturday, helping representatives from the Blue Ridge Area Food Bank (BRAFB) unload mail trucks full of food items collected during the “Stamp Out Hunger” food drive.

This year, the team added a service component to the program by spending three hours Saturday afternoon at the main post office in Lynchburg. “AREVA is donating the money for our goals,” said Ben Cavanaugh, JF boys’ varsity soccer team captain. “Helping to unload the mail trucks was a way the team could directly support the Food Bank.” Letter carriers in Lynchburg alone collected over 18,000 pounds of food on Saturday.

This is the second year that AREVA and the JF boys’ soccer players are teaming up to raise funds and awareness for the BRAFB Backpack program organized by the BRAFB. For every goal scored by the JF team AREVA donates $50 to the Backpack program. So far this season $850 has been raised.
