CHARLOTTE, N.C., April 22, 2014 – AREVA welcomed more than 25 University of North Carolina at Charlotte (UNC Charlotte) Lee College of Engineering Leadership Academy students to its North American Headquarters in Charlotte in March for a ‘Crucial Conversations’ training class.

The class, “Crucial Conversations®: Tools for Talking When the Stakes are High,” was developed by VitalSmarts® to teach skills for creating alignment and agreement by fostering open dialogue around high-stakes, emotional or risky topics. AREVA donated the course materials and employees facilitated the session.

“‘Crucial Conversations’ is one of the most valuable training classes offered to AREVA employees, as clear, effective communications in the office and in the field help to ensure the continued safety and quality of our operations,” said Gary Mignogna, senior vice president, Engineering & Projects North America, and member of the UNC Charlotte Lee College of Engineering Leadership Academy Advisory Board. “We were happy to be able to share the training with these young engineering leaders, and AREVA plans to continue this partnership by offering training opportunities annually to Engineering Leadership Academy students.”

“The ‘Crucial Conversations’ training provided by AREVA fits so well within the Engineering Leadership Academy’s leadership development curriculum,” said Donald Blackmon, director of the UNC Charlotte Lee College of Engineering Leadership Academy. “We are so thankful to AREVA for making this training available, and for their continued support of our programs.”
