AREVA Inc. to Supply Exclusive Solution to Monitor Nuclear Reactor Fluid Systems
May 21, 2014
CHARLOTTE, N.C., May 21, 2014 – AREVA Inc. has signed an agreement with engineering firm NUCCORP Inc. to be the exclusive supplier of NUCCORP’s patented Nuclear Grade Air Trap (NGAT™) technology to the nuclear industry. This device passively monitors and accumulates air and gas in nuclear plant cooling systems.
“This agreement is yet another example of AREVA’s support of the U.S. nuclear fleet’s mission to generate safe and reliable electricity,” said George Beam, senior vice president of AREVA Inc.’s Installed Base Business Unit. “We are pleased to be the exclusive channel for this innovative technology, as it is the only solution that allows customers to completely verify, measure and eliminate gas in station systems.”
If allowed to accumulate, air and gas can compromise the proper operation of the emergency core cooling systems. A one-of-a-kind solution, the NGAT™ continuously monitors for an accumulation of air and gas, allowing for quick ventilation of the affected system to ensure the plant’s continued safe operation.
The NGAT™ system eliminates the need for periodic venting and ultrasonic testing inspections, which can increase costs and impair operational efficiency. Winner of a 2012 Nuclear Energy Institute Vendor Top Industry Practice award, the simply designed device can be easily installed in existing plants and has already been successfully demonstrated in operation.
