AREVA and Jefferson Forest Boys’ Soccer Team Work Together to Fight Local Childhood Hunger
June 16, 2014
CHARLOTTE, N.C., June 16, 2014 – The Jefferson Forest Boys’ Varsity Soccer Team scored 40 goals at home games this year and, through partnership with AREVA Inc., raised $2,000 for the Blue Ridge Area Food Bank’s Backpack Program. This is the second year in a row that AREVA has sponsored the “JF Kicks for a Cause” program, donating $50 for every goal scored during regular and post season home games to help fight childhood hunger in central Virginia.
The team presented AREVA’s check to Blue Ridge Area Food Bank representatives last week at their end of season banquet. Team Captain Ben Cavanaugh said “The program raised money for this important cause, but it also helped us learn about the struggle that kids here in Lynchburg are having just getting enough to eat.”
In addition to earning the donation from AREVA, the team contributed over 30 volunteer hours during the “Stamp Out Hunger” food drive in May.
