AREVA's 10' x 10' electro-hydraulic multi-axial 7-ton shake table tests items weighing up to 10 tons at a maximum of 100 Hz with peak acceleration from 5- to 20-g, dependent on the item's mass.
CHARLOTTE, N.C., July 15, 2014 – AREVA’s U.S. Technical Center has passed a Nuclear Procurement Issues Committee (NUPIC) member audit, certifying AREVA as an approved supplier for seismic and environmental qualification testing of existing nuclear equipment.
Following this utility-led audit, AREVA can offer these services to support utilities in meeting changing Nuclear Regulatory Commission requirements and testing for commercial grade dedication.
“Our comprehensive testing facility can now support the entire U.S. nuclear industry with procurement of safety-related components,” said Marty Parece, vice president of the Products and Technology Business Unit for AREVA Inc. “In particular, the seismic analysis laboratory, which features an advance tri-axial shake table, can help our customers meet stringent seismic qualification requirements and ensure the continued safe operation of the U.S. nuclear fleet.”
Part of the AREVA Solutions Complex in Lynchburg, Va., the dedicated laboratories of the U.S. Technical Center simulate both real and extreme conditions of reactor operations including severe environmental conditions and thermal aging in order to examine the performance of components.
