CHARLOTTE, N.C., September 9, 2014 – AREVA has invested an additional $500K to expand the company’s capabilities at the Technical Training Center on Mill Ridge Road. This facility is an integral part of the AREVA North American Operational Center of Excellence in Lynchburg, Va.
The majority of this investment went toward design and construction of additional nuclear power plant component mock-ups that will be used for hands-on training of employees and customers in a more realistic plant environment. Previously, technicians and service providers were trained in the field on these highly specialized components, in environments where schedule and dose are of the essence.
“Adding these mock-ups to our Training Center allows our technicians to get hands-on training for plant-specific configurations and new procedures in a safe environment that is more conducive to learning and sharing information,” said George Beam, senior vice president installed base services. “These new mock-ups provide our customers and our employees access to world-class training and to some of the most realistic plant conditions the industry has to offer.”
With these new state-of-the-art mock-ups, AREVA and its customers can get the training to perform tasks more safely and efficiently, reducing workers’ time in containment and optimizing the customers’ outage schedule.
