AREVA and JF Boys’ Soccer Team Successfully Campaign Against Local Childhood Hunger
June 12, 2015
LYNCHBURG, Va., June 12, 2015 – The Jefferson Forest Boys’ Varsity Soccer Team partnered with AREVA to raise money and awareness for local childhood food insecurity. This year, as part of the “JF Kicks for a Cause” program sponsored by AREVA, the team earned a $1,450 donation to the Blue Ridge Area Food Bank (BRAFB) Backpack Program by scoring 29 goals at their home games during the season. This is the third year in a row AREVA has sponsored the fund and awareness-raising program.
In response to the team’s presentation of AREVA’s check, Kristi West, Partner Services Coordinator for the BRAFB, said, “One out of every six kids lives with food insecurity in our area. Your ‘Kicks for a Cause’ program and others like it help us to educate our neighbors and fund feeding programs so that we can continue to nourish those at risk.”
“AREVA is all about forward-looking energy,” said Bob Freeman, AREVA vice president of the Fuels Business Unit and team parent. “Through our support and the team’s community-focused efforts, children at risk of going hungry will get meals over the weekends when school is out. Responding to this basic need will put those kids in a better position to learn and grow into our next generation of leaders.”

As part of the JF Kicks for a Cause program, the team also volunteered 63 hours of service during the USPS “Stamp Out Hunger” canned food drive, unloading cans of food from Letter Carriers’ vehicles for the BRAFB.
