AREVA Inc. Trains for Emergency Response with Local Fire Departments
October 30, 2015
CHARLOTTE, N.C., October 30, 2015 – AREVA Inc. recently partnered with local fire departments to perform site familiarity drills at its AREVA Solutions Complex facility near Lynchburg, Va.
“Emergency responders in our communities serve a vital role in our commitment to safe operations of our facilities,” said Herb Richardson, vice president of Safety, Security and Operations Support at AREVA Inc. “We regularly conduct drills to ensure that they are familiar with our facilities and our team. This level of coordination and communication is part of our culture of operational excellence, and we are proud to partner with the local organizations and people serving our community.”
Fifty volunteer firefighters and AREVA personnel participated in the confined space extrication training. Following a classroom session to discuss procedures and safety awareness, the outside drill included vertically lowering and then removing emergency response personnel from an onsite storm water drain. AREVA personnel also simulated procedures to check for radiation exposure.
As part of AREVA’s support for regional emergency response, the company recently donated more than $10,000 to the Concord and Rustburg volunteer fire departments. Last year, AREVA and its employees contributed more than $1.8 million and more than 3,000 volunteer hours to charitable organizations and educational institutions in the communities where it operates.
