March 28, 2016
LYNCHBURG, Va., March 28, 2016 – AREVA Inc. and the Jefferson Forest (JF) High School boys’ varsity soccer team are partnering for the fourth year in a row to raise funds for the Blue Ridge Area Food Bank’s BackPack Program. AREVA will donate $75 for every goal the JF team scores during home games this season to assist the more than 53,000 children in the Blue Ridge region struggling with hunger.
“At AREVA, the pride and passion of our people drive everything that we do, and we consistently work to make our communities a better place to live and work,” said Robert Freeman, vice president of U.S. nuclear fuels of AREVA Inc. and a soccer team volunteer. “We are proud to support the Jefferson Forest soccer team and the Blue Ridge Area Food Bank, and their work to eliminate hunger in our area.”
"The team is excited to support the fight against childhood hunger again in our local schools,” said Kyle Galindo, a senior leader on the JF varsity soccer team. “We are planning to beat last year's number and earn the full donation from AREVA."
The BackPack program began in 2006 and has grown to feed thousands of children through free or reduced lunches at their elementary schools in the six counties and four cities within the food bank’s service area.
“When children go hungry, their futures are at stake,” said Michael McKee, CEO of the Blue Ridge Area Food Bank. “We’re grateful to each and every team member who plays to win for the 1,700 children served each month through after-school feeding programs in the Lynchburg area. Together, we can feed their potential.”
AREVA sponsors the BackPack Program as part of its community outreach in Lynchburg, Va. The contributions committee, which represents a cross-section of the company’s Lynchburg employees, commends the team on its creative approach to community service, and raising awareness and funds.
