AREVA NP and Bruce Power Sign Agreement for High-voltage Maintenance Program

Press Release

January 31, 2017

CHARLOTTE, N.C., January 31, 2017 – Bruce Power and AREVA NP today announced a memorandum of understanding valued at up to $55 million for a high-voltage maintenance program.

“This is another in a series of strategic partnerships with companies in the nuclear industry that will provide significant economic spin-off for communities across the province and, in this case, right here in our backyard,” said Mike Rencheck, Bruce Power’s president and CEO.

Under this agreement, AREVA NP will provide services for transformers and other high-voltage components to support Bruce Power in delivering dependable electricity to Ontario homes and businesses.

“While AREVA NP is a worldwide company, we act and support our customers locally,” said Nicolas Maes, vice president of AREVA NP’s Installed Base Business Unit. “We are proud to be a long-term partner of Bruce Power and to support them with our Kincardine-based employees and staff, backed by our worldwide experience and innovation capabilities.”

The memorandum of understanding is the culmination of several years of collaboration and planning to design a high-voltage maintenance program to meet nuclear industry standards. The program was developed using the fundamental requirements for programs at nuclear energy facilities, including the development of a robust approach to incorporate operating experience and operational excellence.

“We help our customers deliver the nuclear promise in North America through innovations and advancements in technologies,” said Craig Ranson, senior vice president of Installed Base Services at AREVA Inc. “This program is just one more example of AREVA NP’s added value in supporting the continued efficient and reliable operation of nuclear energy facilities across North America.”

The AREVA NP Kincardine office was established with a vision to increase reliable, local employment opportunities, and support local economic growth. AREVA NP places high importance on utilizing local vendors whenever possible and works closely with many local vendors. Currently more than 90 percent of staff and contractors at the Kincardine office reside in Bruce, Grey and Huron counties.

“Bruce Power’s Life-Extension program will mean the Bruce site will continue to power the province until 2064 and this is good news for our area and for families and businesses across Ontario,” said Anne Eadie, mayor of the Municipality of Kincardine. “Bruce Power and the electricity it provides Ontario families and businesses is part of the solution over the short- and long-term to provide a source of low-cost, stable electricity.”
