AREVA's joint subsidiary with Siemens, Framatome ANP Inc., has been awarded a contract to supply a pressurizer* to Florida Power & Light Company's St. Lucie Unit 1 nuclear power plant. This is the first pressurizer order for the company with delivery to the United States.
The contract covers design, manufacturing, delivery and installation of the pressurizer, which will include replacement heaters. The pressurizer is scheduled to be delivered and installed during fall 2005. The group will also replace the unit's reactor vessel closure head during this outage. The components will be manufactured at AREVA's Chalon-St-Marcel factory in France.
AREVA is a world leader in nuclear plant component manufacturing and to date has produced, through Framatome ANP, some 300 steam generators, 76 reactor vessels and closure heads, another 52 replacement closure heads and 68 pressurizers. The group has received some $350 million in orders for replacement components for plants since 2000. About 60 percent of its component sales revenue last year was from orders in the United States. This new contract strengthens AREVA's commercial breakthrough in the United States where there is a buoyant pressurizer replacement demand.
* A pressurizer is a large vessel or tank inside the containment building that controls the primary coolant system pressure in a pressurized water reactor.
