With close to 50 million pounds of uranium concentrate produced since 1999, McClean Lake is AREVA Resources’ flagship operation. McClean Lake boasts the most technologically advanced uranium mill in the world; it can process ore grades from less than 1% to 30% uranium without dilution.
Mining of the Sue deposits is complete at McClean Lake, and AREVA is preparing to restart the mill. The McClean Lake mill is undergoing a multi-million dollar expansion to process 100% of the ore from the Cigar Lake mine and potentially other projects, such as Midwest and smaller ore bodies at McClean Lake. The McClean Lake mill is expected to restart in the third quarter of 2014.
The Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission (CNSC) approved the renewal of the operating licence for a period of eight years, from July 1, 2009 to June 30, 2017.
