FOCUS: EAGLE ROCK ENRICHMENT FACILITY

AREVA plans to build a new uranium enrichment facility -- using the latest proven, in-operation centrifuge technology -- near Idaho Falls, Idaho.

There are several reasons why a new uranium enrichment plant is needed in the United States:

The nation’s first new nuclear power plants in more than three decades are anticipated to start operating as soon as 2015. These clean-air plants will require a steady, reliable source of uranium enrichment services.
Currently, the United States imports a significant percentage of its uranium enrichment services.
Providing uranium enrichment services in the United States is critical to the nation’s energy independence and national security.

Why did we choose the name Eagle Rock Enrichment Facility?

The new plant will be called Eagle Rock Enrichment Facility. We chose the name for two reasons:
the eagle is a symbol of American strength,
and the name "Eagle Rock," which was the former name of Idaho Falls, has significance for the surrounding community.

A multi-billion dollar investiment for AREVA:

The future facility represents a multi-billion dollar investment and will employ hundreds of people during the construction and operation phases, providing a diversity of jobs and contributing to strengthening the regional economy.

A state-of-the-art plant, Eagle Rock will have a yearly production capacity of approximately 3 million SWU, with the possibility of expanding capacity if market conditions are favorable. (A SWU, or Separative Work Unit, is the industry’s standard unit for measuring enrichment services.)

We at AREVA are proud to use our experience and expertise to provide domestically produced uranium enrichment services for America’s CO2-emissions-free nuclear power industry.
